The Louisiana Air National Guard-159th Fighter Wing is participating in operation Frisian Flag 2017 at the Dutch Air Base in Leeuwarden, the Netherlands. Pilots from the Belgium, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Portugal, the UK, and the U.S. will participate in exercises over Denmark, Germany, and the Netherlands from March 27 to April 7.
The United States Air Force has deployed 12 F-15Cs for this exercise and others. Approximately 300 American Air Force service members and support equipment are deployed with aircraft. The Royal Netherlands Air Force-has lead Operation Frisian Flag since 1998 at Leeuwarden Air Base. The countries are all working together on strengthening inter-operability and demonstrating U.S. commitment to the security and stability of Europe. Chargé d’Affaires Shawn Crowley and Embassy Air Attaché Colonel Scott Fisher joined the events on Media Day, March 28, along with Major General Jon Kelk, Air National Guard Mobilization Assistant to the Commander, USAF in Europe/Air Forces Africa, Brigadier General Pete Schneider, Assistant Adjutant General – Air, Louisiana National Guard, and Colonel Denny Traas, Leeuwarden Base Commander to watch the exercises.
