Security Alert – U.S. Consulate General Amsterdam, Netherlands (December 15, 2023)

Location:  The Netherlands, countrywide

Event:  On December 12, 2023, the Dutch National Coordinator for Counterterrorism and Security (NCTV) raised the threat level for terrorism from 3 (“significant”) to 4 (“substantial”) in their 5-tier system.  As reported by the NCTV, this means there is a realistic possibility an attack will take place in the Netherlands. The country was at level 4 from 2013 until December 2019, when the level was reduced to 3.
