Message for U.S. Citizens – Elimination of U.S. Dollar Cash Payments for Consular Services

Effective June 1, 2021, the U.S. Consulate General in Amsterdam will no longer accept U.S. dollar cash payments for consular fees.  This includes payments for services provided by both the American Citizens Services and Visa Units.

Consular fees can be paid with any credit card (Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express, or Diner’s Club).  U.S. debit cards are also accepted if they carry the “VISA” symbol.  Please note that the credit or debit card must be in the name of the applicant or the accompanying parent or legal guardian if the applicant is under the age of 18.

While a credit card payment is strongly recommended, consular fees can also be paid with cash in Euros.  We do NOT accept checks or PIN cards.  Please bring exact change to the appointment.  For a current list of consular fees please visit the following websites:

Fees for Visa Services: https://nl.usembassy.gov/visas/immigrant-visas/immigrant-visa-fees/ and https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/visa-information-resources/fees/fees-visa-services.html

The U.S. Consulate General in Amsterdam continues to operate with limited staffing.  Social distancing and other COVID-19 measures also limit the number of customers we can serve daily.  Applicants who arrive at their appointment unprepared (without the required forms or fees can negatively impact our ability to provide services to other customers.  Applicants who do not bring an accepted form of payment to their interview will be asked to reschedule.
