Memorial Dedication Marks the Third Anniversary of the Downing of Flight MH17

July 17, 2017-  The third anniversary of the downing of flight MH17 will be marked by the opening of a national monument dedicated to the victims.

The creators of this living memorial forest were inspired by the form of the black memorial ribbon, which was used as a symbol in the aftermath of the tragedy, and is also used by Stichting Vliegramp MH17.

The layout of the forest will be in the form of a green ribbon, planted with 298 trees, each tree representing a person on board of flight MH17.  The ribbon will be surrounded by a ring of sunflowers, which blossom during the month of July.  The new memorial is located close to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport.  To read more about the memorial please click here.  To read the July 6 statement by the Department spokesperson on the recent JIT decision click here.
