The U.S. Consulate General in Amsterdam offers services to U.S. citizens, visa applicants, (intending) immigrants and, to a limited extent, permanent residents of the United States.

Visiting the Consulate General

All visits to the Consulate General, except in an emergency, must be by appointment.

After making the appointment, please complete all application forms and verify what documents and photo copies you must bring with you. For this information, please select the service you require from our U.S. citizen services menu.

It is advisable to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your actual appointment time. If you arrive late or unprepared, we may ask you to re-schedule your appointment.

Visiting the immigrant visa unit

All immigrant visa services are by appointment only. Bring the required documents and the appointment confirmation with you.

The Consulate General is located at Museumplein 19, 1071 DJ  AMSTERDAM. This is on the corner of the Museumplein, opposite of the Stedelijk Museum and across from the Van Gogh Museum.

Public Transport
You can plan your train journey to Amsterdam through the Dutch public transport website http://www.9292ov.nl/, by calling 0900 9292 or via the website of the The Netherlands Railways.

The Consulate General in Amsterdam is easy to visit by tram from the following railway stations in Amsterdam:

  • Amsterdam Central Station: trams 2, 12,  subway 52 (+10 min walk)
  • Station Amsterdam Zuid: tram 5 or subway 52 (+10 min walk)
  • Station Amsterdam Amstel: tram 12
  • Station Sloterdijk: tram 19 (+ 10 minute walk OR transfer to 5/3)
  • Station Amsterdam Muiderpoort: tram 3

There is a taxi stand within walking distance from the Consulate General on the Concertgebouwplein.

By Car
From all directions ring A10. From the ring you take exit S108 (Amstelveen) or S109 (RAI) direction: “Centrum.”

Parking Garage
There is a parking garage underneath the Museumplein. The entrance is at the van Baerlestraat. From the ring you take exit S108 and you can follow the P-signs. Cars with a height of more than 1.90 meters however, cannot access the garage. For more information visit the website of Q-Park (site is in the Dutch language).
