Demonstration Alert – Amsterdam Wednesday, March 14

Location:  Announced gathering points include, but are not limited to, the following neighborhoods in Amsterdam, the Netherlands:

  • Waterlooplein
  • Museumplein

Event:  Demonstration expected to take place on Wednesday, March 14, beginning at 12:00 p.m. and ending at 5:00 p.m.  Dutch Teaching Unions intend to conduct a march and demonstration focused on salaries and education policies.

The group will assemble at Waterlooplein and end at Museumplein, in the vicinity of U.S. Consulate General.  Police are expecting a high turnout, which will impact public transportation and roadways in and around Amsterdam.  Note that even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence.

Actions to Take:

  • Avoid the areas of the demonstrations.
  • Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests.
  • Monitor local media for updates.
