Demonstration Alert – U. S. Consulate General, Amsterdam, the Netherlands (March 9, 2018)

Location: Announced gathering points include, but are not limited to, the following neighborhoods in Amsterdam, the Netherlands:

  • Museumplein
  • Waterlooplein

Event: Demonstration expected to take place on Sunday, March 11 beginning at 1:30p.m. and ending at 5:00p.m. The group Pegida (“Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamization of the West”) intends to conduct a march and demonstration. The group will assemble at Waterlooplein and end with a rally at the Museumplein in the vicinity of U.S. Consulate General.

Police are expecting counter protestors and will be present to maintain order. Note, however, even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence.

  • Avoid the areas of the demonstrations.
  • Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests.
  • Monitor local media for updates.
